Ashley began her training at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet at the age of 6. In 1999 she entered the School of American Ballet where she received the Mae L. Wien Award for Outstanding Promise in 2000. She then joined the New York City Ballet as an apprentice that June and joined the corps de ballet in that October. She was promoted to soloist in February 2004, and in January 2005 was promoted to Principal Dancer.

In addition to dancing roles in many Balanchine and Robbins pieces at NYCB, she has been featured in and originated roles in works by Peter Martins, Christopher Wheeldon, Richard Tanner, Mauro Bigonzetti, Douglas Lee, Wayne McGregor, Jorma Elo, Alexei Ratmansky, and Albert Evans.

Ashley has guest starred with the Paris Opera Ballet and the Rome Opera Ballet. And has danced in ballet galas all over the world.
