Ellen Bar began her ballet training at the age of seven with the School of American Ballet (SAB), the official school of New York City Ballet. She appeared in the children's role of "Candy Cane" in the film version of George Balanchine's The Nutcrackerâ„¢, which was released in 1993. While at SAB, Ms. Bar was the recipient of the Anna Whitney Bass Scholarship for Dancers with Outstanding Promise. In the fall of 1997, Ms. Bar was invited to become an apprentice with New York City Ballet and she joined the Company's corps de ballet in June 1998. In 2000, She appeared in the ensemble of the film "Center Stage" directed by Nicholas Hytner. In March of 2006 she was promoted to soloist and continues to perform soloist and principal roles with the company. Ellen is a part time student at Columbia University and has had her dance writing published in Ballet Review, The Columbia Observer, and The Bucks County Herald. In 2010, Ellen created and produced a scripted feature film adaptation of Jerome Robbins' 1958 ballet "NY Export: Opus Jazz", shot on 35mm on location all over New York City starring a cast of New York City Ballet dancers. The film, of the same name, premiered at the 2010 South by Southwest Film Festival, where it won an Audience Award, and was broadcast nationally on PBS' Great Performances series. The film has been nominated for the prestigious Rose d'Or Award and is tentatively scheduled to be released on DVD/download in November.

I love the concept of your film, Ellen! Congratulations on its release! When the drums started, it was electrifying! West Side Story has always been my most favorite musical. Thank you and continued success and happiness.
