Hikaru was born in Tokyo, Japan and trained at the Paris Opera Ballet School from 1992 to 1995 when she joined the Jeune Ballet de France. In 1996 she joined the Zurich Ballet and in 1999 the Dutch National Ballet. She has won the Grand Prix in Concours Internationale de Cvignale (1998).
In September 2003 she joined The Royal Ballet as a First Artist and was promoted to Soloist in September 2006. She become First Soloist in 2009. She has created a role in Alastair Marriott’s Being and Having Been (Linbury 2004).
Since joining The Royal Ballet she has made her debut as a Cygnet and second solo Pas de deux in Anthony Dowell’s production of Swan Lake, one of two Sylphs in Johan Kobborg’s production of August Bournonville’s La Sylphide, a courtesan in MacMillan’s Manon, the Pas de six side couple in Peter Wright’s production of Giselle, the Diamond Fairy and Fairy of the Enchanted Garden in the Monica Mason and Christopher Newton production of The Sleeping Beauty and Johan Kobborg’s production of Napoli Divertissements.
During the 2007/08 Season she made her debut as the First Solo Shade and the Third Solo Shade in Natalia Makarova’s production of La Bayadère and Pig-Wig and Mrs Tittlemouse in Ashton’s Tales of Beatrix Potter.
