Born: Austria
Johannes was born in Austria in 1979 and trained at the Ballet School of the Vienna State Opera. A semi-finalist at Prix de Lausanne, he joined the Vienna State Opera corps de ballet in 1996 and was promoted to Demi-Soloist in 1999. He joined The Royal Ballet as an Artist in 2001 and was promoted to First Artist at the end of the Season.
His repertory with the Company includes a Cavalier in The Sleeping Beauty, one of the three Young Men in Manon, Spanish Dance in Swan Lake, a Cavalier in Raymonda, and the third Pas de deux in La Valse.
He has created roles in Vanessa Fenton’s Knots and Trias, Kenneth Tharp’s Danger! Men at Work Play as part of the 2002 Artists’ Development Initiative, Christopher Wheeldon’s Tryst for The Royal Ballet in May 2002, Cathy Marston’s Broken Fiction in the Linbury Studio Theatre in October 2003, Vanessa Fenton’s On Public Display (Linbury 2004), Christopher Bruce’s Three Songs – Two Voices in May 2005 and Alastair Marriott’s Children of Adam in 2007.
His repertory with The Royal Ballet includes Ashton’s Scénes de ballet, Lensky in John Cranko’s Onegin, the First Red Knight in De Valois’s Checkmate, the Man in Antony Tudor’s The Leaves are Fading, the Blue Boy in Nacho Duato’s Remanso and Por Vos Muero, Wilfred and Pas de six in Peter Wright’s production of Giselle, Paris and Benvolio in Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet and La Fin du Jour, Mark Morris’s Gong, Prince Fortune in Natalia Makarova’s The Sleeping Beauty and David Binltey’s Les Saisons. He has also danced Count Hoyos in Kenneth MacMillan’s Mayerling, His Friend in The Judas Tree, Pas de quatre in Gloria, Dancing Gentleman in Manon and Images of Love, Jiří Kylián’s Sinfonietta, Christopher Wheeldon’s Polyphonia, a servant in George Balanchine’s Prodigal Son, Cathy Marston’s Traces, Matjash Mrozewski’s Castle Nowhere, Peter Rabbit in Tales of Beatrix Potter, the Spanish Prince and Wolf in the Monica Mason and Christopher Newton production of The Sleeping Beauty.
