Raised in Atlanta Georgia, Rachel Sherak began her ballet training at the age of ten with the North Atlanta Dance Company. Her high school years were spent as a resident student at the School of American Ballet where she performed with the New York City Ballet as well as various annual workshop performances including George Balanchine's Square Dance and Christopher d'Amboise's Tribute. In 2006, Rachel performed the principal couple in James Sewell's Nuo Drama choreographed for the New York City Ballet Choreographic Institute. That same year Rachel joined Carolina Ballet where she proceeded to dance for three seasons. Rachel has performed principal and soloist roles in Jerome Robbin's Fancy Free, Lynne Taylor-Corbett's Code of Silence, Great Galloping Gottschalk, and Cabaret Evening, George Balanchine's Raymonda Variations, and Robert Weiss' Messiah, Peter and the Wolf, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Cinderella, The Nutcracker and Petit Ballet Romantique. In 2009 Rachel was invited to dance with Morphoses: The Wheeldon Company and once again became a resident of Manhattan. She was an original cast member in Wheeldon's Rhapsody Fantasie as well as one of eight dancers to perform his vivacious Commedia. With Morphoses, Rachel toured to California, London, Amersterdam, Dallas and Ottawa. She is a current member of the company and will return to work with Morhposes in the fall of 2010. Enjoying the familiar sights and sounds of the city, Rachel is looking forward to expanding her knowledge of ballet and contemporary dance and remains continuously honored to bring new forms of beauty and creativity to the outside community.
