Rubén Martín Cintas was born in Reus, Spain, and trained at Escuela Municipal de Danza and Estudio de Danza de Maria de Avila. He danced with English National Ballet prior to joining San Francisco Ballet in 2000. Martín Cintas was promoted to soloist in 2003 and to principal dancer in 2006. Lead roles include Prince Siegfried in Tomasson’s Swan Lake, Albrecht in Tomasson’s Giselle, Espada in Tomasson/Possokhov’s Don Quixote, and the Nutcracker Prince and Snow King in Tomasson’s Nutcracker. In addition, Martín Cintas has danced principal roles in Adam’s imaginal disc; Ashton’s Monotones I; Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante, Who Cares?, The Four Temperaments, Stravinsky Violin Concerto, “Emeralds”, and “Diamonds”; Elo’s Double Evil; Forsythe’s Artifact Suite and in the middle, somewhat elevated; Lubovitch’s Othello and Elemental Brubeck; Morris’ Joyride, Sandpaper Ballet, A Garden, and Pacific; Posskhov’s Firebird and Fusion; Robbins’ In the Night, Fancy Free, West Side Story Suite, Dybbuk, and Afternoon of a Faun; Tomasson’s Blue Rose, The Fifth Season, and Chi-Lin; Tudor’s Jardin aux Lilas; Wheeldon's Rush, Continuum, Carousel (A Dance), and Quaternary; and Welch’s Naked and Tu Tu. Martín Cintas placed second at Lucienne Lamballe International Ballet Competition in 1995. He has performed as a guest artist with Oregon Ballet Theatre, and has appeared in numerous ballet galas internationally.
