The Sarasota Ballet is the Gulf Coast of Florida’s first and only professional ballet company. Under the Direction of Iain Webb since July 2007, the Sarasota Ballet has expanded its repertoire to include works by world renowned choreographers such as Sir Frederick Ashton, Dame Ninette de Valois, Antony Tudor, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Robert North, John Cranko, Hans van Manen, Andre Prokovsky, Matthew Bourne and Dominic Walsh. Recently, dance and theatre critic for the New York Times Alastair Macaulay noted “...the Sarasota Ballet (in its 18th year, and directed since 2007 by Iain Webb) has suddenly become America’s foremost exponent of Ashton ballets.”
Webb, previously a dancer with Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet and The Royal Ballet Covent Garden, was the assistent director with K-Ballet Company in Japan and guest teacher with numerous companies before being invited to be the Director of The Sarasota Ballet.
Under Iain’s direction the company has received critical acclaim in The New York Times, Sarasota Herald Tribune, The Observer, Orlando Sentinel, Dancing Times (London), St. Petersburg Times and The Bradenton Herald.
Mr. Webb's vision for the company is to give the Sarasota Ballet its own unique identity and to carve a place in the history of the American dance world.
The Sarasota Ballet performs in the FSU Center for the Performing Arts, Sarasota Opera House and the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.
