Julio Catano was born in San Diego, California in 1989. He began dancing at the Academy of Performing Arts (APA) and the City Ballet School of San Diego through the collaboration of school directors Kevin C. Patterson and Steven Wistrich. Mr. Catano was soon recruited by Cynthia D. Morales to the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) from which he graduated with an emphasis on Ballet in 2007, while continuing to supplement his training at APA and City Ballet.

His first professional engagement came in the Fall 2007 Mercedes-Benz L.A. Fashion Week while concurrently enrolled at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. Julio became the youngest artist under contract with the San Diego Dance Theater the following fall. He also joined the San Diego Ballet for the seasons 2008-2010 where he performed as a soloist in such roles as Friar Laurence in the company's production of Romeo and Juliet, Russian Cossack, Chinese Tea and Rat King in The Nutcracker and in Javier Velasco's solo work titled "Yesterday."

Mr. Catano has performed with the San Diego Opera in the productions of Salome (2012), under the direction of Seán Curran and in Romeo and Juliet (2010), choreographed by Keturah Stickann. Julio has performed as a guest artist with MOMIX, New Jersey Dance Theater Ensemble, California Ballet Company, Malashock Dance, among other dance companies. Julio is currently in The Ailey School/Fordham University BFA program where he has performed works by Alvin Ailey, Elisa Monte, Julie Bour, Thang Dao, Bradley Shelver, Ray Mercer, Stefanie Batten Bland, Nathan Trice and Marquet K. Lee.

In the fall of 2011, Julio was invited to join Ballet Hispanico 2 (BH2), the apprentice company of Ballet Hispanico under the direction of artistic director Eduardo Vilaro and former principal dancer Nicholas Villeneuve. With BH2 he has performed repertoire by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Geoffrey Holder, Vicente Nebrada, William Whitener, Pedro Ruiz, Ramón Oller, Alda Reuter, Nicholas Villeneuve and Eduardo Vilaro. Julio has a love for dance pedagogy and is also an instructor of the DanceSource School in Queens, NY. Mr. Catano has been a member of the American Guild of Musical Artist (AGMA) since 2010.
